IPTV setup guide for every screen in the house

Your welcome email contains everything a player app needs: a username, a password, a server address and, for some devices, a playlist link. Pick your device below and follow the steps. If anything looks different from what's described, message us and we'll walk you through it live.

First, the three ways to log in

Xtream Codes

A username, a password and a server URL. Used by most modern apps, and the easiest to set up. Choose this whenever the app offers it.

M3U playlist

A single long link containing your login. Works in almost any player, including VLC. Paste it rather than typing it.

Portal (MAC)

Used by MAG and some Formuler boxes. The device is identified by its MAC address, which we register on our side first.

Samsung & LG Smart TVs

  1. Open your TV's app store: Smart Hub (Apps) on Samsung, LG Content Store on LG.
  2. Search for the player we suggested in your welcome email. IBO Player, SET IPTV and Smart IPTV are common choices on both brands.
  3. Open the player. It will display a MAC address (and sometimes a device key) on screen. Leave that screen open.
  4. On your phone or computer, go to the player's official website and find its playlist or activation page.
  5. Enter the MAC address from your TV, then paste the playlist link (M3U) or Xtream details from your email. Save.
  6. Back on the TV, restart the player. Channels, the guide and on-demand sections load within a minute or two.

Most TV player apps offer a free trial period and then charge a small activation fee, paid to the app's developer rather than to us. Your subscription works in any of them.

Amazon Fire TV Stick & Fire TV

  1. From the home screen, search for Downloader and install it from the Amazon Appstore.
  2. Go to Settings › My Fire TV › About and select your device name seven times. This unlocks Developer Options.
  3. Go back to Settings › My Fire TV › Developer Options › Install unknown apps, and switch Downloader on.
  4. Open Downloader and enter the download code or address we send you for the recommended player.
  5. Install the player, open it and choose Xtream Codes login.
  6. Paste your username, password and server URL from the welcome email, then let the playlist load.

Android TV, Google TV & Android boxes

  1. Open the Google Play Store on the TV or box.
  2. Install a player. TiviMate is a favourite for its cable-style guide; XCIPTV and similar apps work well too.
  3. Open the app and choose to add a playlist.
  4. Select Xtream Codes login and enter your details, or paste the M3U link from your email.
  5. Add the EPG (guide) link if the app asks for one. Xtream logins usually fetch it automatically; ask us if you need it.
  6. Wait for channels and guide data to load, then sort your favourites.

Apple TV

  1. Open the App Store on your Apple TV.
  2. Install an IPTV player such as iPlayTV, IPTVX or GSE Smart IPTV.
  3. Open the app and add a new playlist or source.
  4. Choose the Xtream Codes option and enter your username, password and server URL.
  5. Save. The app downloads the channel list, and in most players the guide as well.

Typing on an Apple TV remote is slow. Many players let you add the playlist from an iPhone app or a web page instead; check the player's settings.

iPhone & iPad

  1. Open the App Store and install a player such as IPTVX, GSE Smart IPTV or Smarters Player Lite.
  2. Open the app and tap the option to add a playlist or log in with Xtream Codes.
  3. Copy your username, password and server URL from our email and paste them in.
  4. Save and wait for the channel list to download.

Watching on mobile data? One hour of HD uses roughly 2 to 3 GB, so keep an eye on your plan.

Android phones & tablets

  1. Open the Google Play Store and install the player we recommend in your email.
  2. Open it and choose Xtream Codes (sometimes called "Xtream API") login.
  3. Enter your username, password and server URL.
  4. Confirm and let the channels load.

MAG boxes

  1. Before anything else, send us the MAC address printed on the sticker under the box (it starts with 00:1A:79). We link it to your subscription.
  2. On the box, open Settings › System settings › Servers › Portals.
  3. Type any name in the Portal 1 name field, for example "Home TV".
  4. In the Portal 1 URL field, enter the portal address from your email, carefully and exactly.
  5. Save, go back and choose Reboot. The portal loads by itself after the restart.

MAG boxes connect by MAC address rather than by username, so step one really does have to come first.

Formuler boxes

  1. Open the MyTVOnline app that comes preinstalled.
  2. Add a new portal or connection.
  3. Choose either the portal (MAC) option or the Xtream Codes option, whichever we've set up for you.
  4. Enter the portal address or login details from your email and save.

For the portal option, send us your box's MAC address first (Settings › About).

Windows PC & Mac

  1. The quickest option: open VLC Media Player, choose Media › Open Network Stream (File › Open Network on a Mac) and paste your M3U link.
  2. For a proper guide and favourites, install a dedicated player instead. MyIPTV Player on Windows, or IPTVX on a Mac.
  3. Add your playlist using the Xtream Codes details or the M3U link from your email.
  4. Let it load, then use the guide view to browse.

Older Chromecast dongles (no remote)

  1. Install a player that supports casting on your phone, such as GSE Smart IPTV.
  2. Add your playlist in the phone app.
  3. Make sure the phone and Chromecast are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  4. Start a channel on the phone and tap the Cast icon to send it to the TV.

Casting works, but a Chromecast with Google TV or a Fire TV Stick gives a much smoother experience.

After setup: five settings worth changing

  1. Pick favourites. Star the 15 or 20 channels you really watch. You'll rarely need the full list again.
  2. Hide what you don't need. Most players let you hide whole categories, such as languages you don't speak, which makes the guide much faster.
  3. Set the guide to update daily. In apps like TiviMate, a daily EPG refresh keeps programme information accurate.
  4. Try a bigger buffer. If you see occasional stutters, raising the player's buffer size a notch often fixes them.
  5. Use ethernet if you can. A cable from the router to the TV or box is the single biggest upgrade for picture stability.

When something doesn't work

Which IPTV app is best?

On Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV, TiviMate is the most popular because its guide feels like a cable box. On Samsung and LG TVs, IBO Player and SET IPTV are common. On Apple devices, iPlayTV and IPTVX are well regarded. Our IPTV apps guide compares them in more detail.

Can I install the service on more devices than my plan allows?

Yes. Install it wherever you like. Your plan limits how many devices stream at the same moment, not how many have the app installed.

Do I need a VPN?

A VPN isn't required to use our service. Some people use one for privacy; if you do, choose a server close to you in Canada so it doesn't slow your stream down.

How long does setup take?

About five minutes on most devices, a little longer on Smart TVs where you activate the app on a website. Loading the guide the first time can take another minute or two.
